Yamaha YZ 125 - HISTORY
The first Yamaha YZ 125 was launched in 1974. The YZ125 is a 125cc motocross bike, a discipline that was very popular at the time when rough terrains and off-road were synonymous with freedom. Since its debut, the YZ 125 has undergone numerous developments, becoming more and more powerful in terms of both engine and chassis. Among other things, they switched to monoshock absorbers, liquid cooling was introduced in 1981, disc brakes came in 1985 (initially only at the front, then on both wheels from 1988) and finally an upside-down fork in 1989. Numerous further developments to the chassis and engine followed (most notably in 1993, 1996 and 2002), culminating in the famous aluminium frame in 2005 and a brand new engine, which was retained until 2021. During these years, the suspension and brakes were slightly modified, while the fairing was completely modernized in 2015. Yamaha then upgraded the already very powerful engine in 2022 in order to adapt it to current standards. There was also a facelift, not only to freshen up the look, but also to accommodate the improved airbox.
The Yamaha 125 YZ is one of the most popular racing motorcycles ever and has many enthusiastic fans, both because of its great looks and its exceptional performance. A playful, agile motorcycle with a lively engine that inspires both amateur riders and experienced racers.
