Puch - General information
The Puch-Werke, founded in 1899 by Johann Puch, was an Austrian company that produced bicycles, motorcycles, internal combustion engines, motorcycles and automobiles. The mopeds were not defined by their design, but were defined by the road traffic regulations after the Second World War (no driving license requirement, no tax, inexpensive insurance and limited top speed). They produced various models in the period from 1969 to 1995, the best known being the Puch Condor, Puch X30, as it was produced for Switzerland in 1962, as an immediate Maxi predecessor, which was completely different in design from the older Puch MS 50. The MS 50 from 1954 (called: "Stangl-Puch", "Postler-Moped", "Schichtler-Moped", "Maurer-Bock", "Schwarze Sau") was the successful step into the gap between bicycles with auxiliary motor and motorcycles. The Puch Maxi models were all powered by automatic engines or 2-speed engines; there are around 20 models, including the Puch Maxi Nostalgie (only built in 1976), Puch Maxi Super S (automatic engine, white paintwork, lamp mask), Puch Maxi Turbo Sport (4-speed foot-operated gearbox) or the Puch Maxi Casablanca (only built 1972-1973). Later models such as the Puch Monza or Puch Oldtimer were added to the range. In 1987, all brand rights were sold to Piaggio and the end of the Puch era began, the factories were closed and production under Piaggio continued until 1995, when it was also discontinued.
