Tomos
History of the Tomos brand
The Tomos brand was founded in Slovenia in 1954 after producing motorcycles under license from Puch. Tomos is an abbreviation for "Tovarna Motornih koles Sezana", which means "Motorcycle Factory Sezana". The first motorcycle produced under this name was the Tomos Puch SG 250.
In the 1960s, Tomos reacted to the changing market and decided to focus exclusively on 50cc vehicles. The brand made a name for itself, especially on the Dutch market, after having conquered the Slovenian market.
In the following decades until the 1990s, Tomos conquered markets all over the world with mopeds that were well-designed, easy to maintain and affordable.
Production was discontinued in 2018.
Features and main models
Tomos mopeds are generally two-stroke mopeds with 50 to 70cc displacement, automatic transmission, low fuel consumption and a speed of 45 to 55 km/h. In terms of handling, Tomos mopeds are easy to ride and very affordable in terms of cost and maintenance. They are ideal for use in the city, but also for short cross-country trips.
The classic Tomos was on offer for a long time and has probably become the most widespread over the years. In recent years, Tomos has retained its most popular models alongside the Classic: Standard, Flexer and Youngst'R.
